RWJF is launching the Local Data for Equitable Communities grant program that supports collecting, analyzing, and using data to catalyze action on timely issues within communities.

A Collaborative Community Effort Led by: Olmsted County Public Health Services, Olmsted Medical Center, and Mayo Clinic
One Olmsted – Olmsted County’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiative – is about envisioning and developing a workplace and community where everyone is treated equitably. Olmsted County staff continue to make progress toward this vision and some highlights of their work in 2024 are noted below.

Researchers beyond Mayo Clinic’s walls might make use of the Mayo Clinic Platform. Its data network, Connect, uses millions of de-identified patient records, test results, imaging, pathology reports and more from Mayo Clinic and seven other large health care systems across the world.

On April 12, 2022, the Olmsted County Housing Department hosted an Affordable Homes Development Summit. The Summit was intended for local government representatives, developers, builders, realtors, and lenders to come together to discuss how to encourage the construction of modest homes, learn what resources are currently available and brainstorm new ideas and tools to address the growing need of affordable new construction in our communities.

In the last month we have seen an influx of challenges and barriers affecting our API communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the challenges we are hearing from our communities is the closure of schools and the implementation of distance learning.
This time of uncertainty has pushed nonprofit organizations to tap into their creativity and come up with inventive ways to engage and serve their communities. At the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation, community is our compass, so we are inspired to see the community-led ingenuity of the nonprofit sector during this pandemic.

A community engagement session to get input and solicit involvement from community members will be held at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 7 at Riverside Elementary School. I believe that conversation is necessary but not sufficient. We need to follow up with actions. Here is a 5+1 action plan.
